Off topic and random... but I'm pissed

What kind of sickminded jerk makes 13 year old kids write about the problems of this world? Most teachers. Why do they do this to us? We know the world has problems, we are well aware what they are, but what is writing an essay going to do about it? Make us MORE aware? Wow that's a solution for world hunger (not.)
Last year my teacher made us write an essay about what we thought was a problem AND what we think are two great solutions to help fix it. She is probably the most inspiring teacher I have ever had. She believed in us, and always pushed us to do better. Not only that, but she knew that we had more power then most people would give a kid credit for.
Unlike my teacher this year who doesn't even trust us to do something right. She barely manages to teach us something and then piles up homework. Now she is making me write a 500 word essay about the economy, politics, and society. Dude I get there is a big problem with these things. I mean if I was accepted by society would I be sitting here writing this blog instead of working on my essay. But really what is this essay doing to us, I know 99% of the kids are going to make something up so why even give it to us? I mean you could at least discuss this in class with us. But really? Just randomly make us write it with no purpose BUT to raise awareness.
I don't know about all the other kids in my class, but I don't exactly enjoy reading about how the world is failing to support us, and about the doom of my future. I like to stay positive, especially at this age, where we are already facing so many problems, we don't want something even more to be depressed about. (OOOWWWWCCHH my hand hurts from typing.)
I think schools should consider doing what my 7th grade teacher has done for me. Raise hope and believe in us, instead of trying to make us aware of something without even telling us what we can do. How is this going to help future generations, you tell me.
